We want you to know the health and safety of our Guests and Team Members is our top priority. Read on to see how we will best ensure the cleanest and safest environment possible for you and your family.

As we approach the 2021 Summer season we will continue to modify our operations to best protect our staff and visitors from COVID-19. While we are committed to enhanced standards in an effort to keep you as healthy and safe as possible, there remains an inherent and elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place and any place where people are present. Please, read this page fully to ensure the best experience possible as you plan your visit and join us. Also, be sure to review important updates to our Operating Schedule.



Working Together to Avoid COVID-19


The health and safety of our Guests and Team Members is our top priority. In these unprecedented times, we have implemented enhanced health and safety measures to help protect everyone. But we can’t do it alone. We are counting on everyone’s efforts to do their part by cooperating with these new measures that are designed to keep every person visiting and/or working at Idlewild & SoakZone healthy and safe.


Guest Responsibilities

  • Maintain appropriate (6 ft.) distance from others not in your travel party

Planning a Visit

In order to comply with key health and safety measures surrounding limiting capacity, social distancing, and touch-free payment, planning a visit to Idlewild and SoakZone will look different this summer.

  • While state regulations still call for attendance caps of 50 percent of capacity at amusement parks, at this time we are not planning to utilize a RSVP system. We will make regular efforts to update guests via our website and social media on dates with large amounts of capacity, or dates when capacity is expected to be limited. Guests with date-specific tickets, including those visiting as part of a school or group outing, are guaranteed entrance on the date in question. While we cannot guarantee admittance in the event we have reached capacity, we will constantly monitor in-park attendance and admit new guests as others exit the park.
  • All those wishing to enter Idlewild and SoakZone (Guests, Team Members, Suppliers, and Contracted Partners) will have their temperatures scanned before entering the park.
  • Any person with a temperature of 100.4°F or higher, or displaying other symptoms of COVID-19, will be denied entry.
  • Facial coverings are required for all Team Members and Guests aged two (2) and older.
  • Some rides and attractions may not be available this summer due to the pandemic. Please visit our scheduled operations page (available daily once the season begins) for planned closures. This page will be updated as frequently as possible.

While we are committed to enhanced standards in an effort to keep you as healthy and safe as possible, there remains an inherent and elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place and any place where people are present. People who do not show symptoms can still spread COVID-19. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and persons with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable and at higher risk for severe illness. Guests should familiarize themselves with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and evaluate their risk in determining whether they should attend our facilities. If you or a family member are ill or think that you may be getting ill, please postpone your visit until you are well.

By visiting our facility, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

  • If you have a fever or are displaying other symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.
  • All entrants (Guests, Team Members, Vendors and Contracted Partners) will have their temperature scanned by a contactless thermometer before entering Idlewild and SoakZone. Anyone with a temperature at or above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, will be denied entry. The travel party of a person denied entry will also be unable to visit that day.
  • Per CDC guidelines, All entrants will be required to wear facial coverings, except for children under age 2.
  • Team Members will also wear additional personal protective equipment, including gloves and face shields, to perform select work functions.
  • Those without a facial covering will be able to purchase them at park retail locations.
  • Automatic sanitizer stations have been added at the entrance and throughout the park dispensing alcohol-based sanitizer per Centers for Disease Control & Prevention guidelines.
  • Enhanced sanitizing throughout the entrance areas including a thorough daily deep cleaning of all touch points with an EPA-approved sanitizer.
  • In order to achieve six feet of social distance between travel parties, markers will be placed on the ground in all lines and waiting areas for the use of Guests and other entrants. Plexiglass barriers will be installed in locations where social distancing between Team Members and Guests or between fellow Team Members cannot be achieved.
  • Signage throughout the parking and entrance areas will remind all (Guests, Team Members, Suppliers and Contracted Partners) of the importance of following all rules during their time at Idlewild and SoakZone.
  • Capacity of rides and indoor facilities within Idlewild & SoakZone will be closely monitored to ensure minimum six feet of social distancing between travel parties can be achieved.
  • In order to achieve six feet of social distance, markers will be placed on the ground in queue lines and waiting areas for Guest use. Plexiglass barriers will be installed in locations where social distancing cannot be achieved.
  • Enhanced sanitization throughout the park including a thorough daily deep cleaning of all rides and touch points with an EPA-approved sanitizer.
  • Automatic sanitizer stations have been added throughout the park, dispensing alcohol-based sanitizer per CDC guidelines.
  • Hand sanitizer and facial coverings are available for purchase at park retail locations.
  • Team Members will be required to wear facial coverings and additional personal protective equipment, including gloves and face shields.
  • Per CDC guidelines, all Guests will be required to wear facial coverings, except for children under three.
  • Guests must remove their facial coverings to engage in water-related activities, to include water attractions in SoakZone in compliance with water safety best practices.
  • Coverings may also be removed in order to eat.
  • Some attractions may be closed during this initial opening phase, or closed for the entirety of the summer, if Idlewild & SoakZone management feels recommended social distancing and hygiene standards cannot be safely and effectively achieved. Please check our Scheduled Attractions page for the most up-to-date information.
  • Prior to opening, all non-porous surfaces, high touch points (door knobs, door handles, tables, chairs, push plates, railings, light and air control switches) will be thoroughly disinfected and on a routine schedule after opening.
  • Different Entrance and Exit will be designated when possible to avoid or reduce face to face exposure.
  • Employees must wash their hands with hot water for 20 seconds and use a paper hand towel or a hand dryer to dry your hands. Ensure the restocking of soap, paper towels and sanitizer. This practice will be done at the beginning of the shift and throughout the day.
  • Sanitizers will be available in all food preparation areas and all guest service areas, (i.e. Order and Pick up points). In addition, employees will frequently sanitize all contact points.
  • In order to achieve six feet of social distance, markers will be placed on the ground in queue lines and waiting areas for Guest use. Plexiglass barriers will be installed in locations where social distancing cannot be achieved.
  • Tables and other Guest seating will be adjusted to ensure six feet of distance between all travel parties.
  • Team Members will be required to wear facial coverings and additional personal protective equipment, including gloves and face shields where appropriate. Hair restraints are required by Idlewild & SoakZone in all kitchen areas.
  • Guests may remove their facial coverings to eat and drink.
  • Grab & Go is permissible only if the items are individually packed with appropriate label and bottled drinks. 
  • Self-serve food, condiments and topping stations have been discontinued. Pre-portioned condiments and toppings (filled from bulk dispensers behind the counter) will be handed to the guest with the food order upon request.
  • Self-serve soda fountain refill stations will not be used. Team Members will fill and serve all drinks for Guests.
  • Soda/ICEE Souvenir Cup refills will be served over the counter by an attendant using paper cups.
  • Individually wrapped cutlery forks and spoons will be handed by a cashier as necessary.
  • Napkins will still be available from the no-touch dispensers.
  • We strongly recommend Guests utilize contact-less payment for all food and retail items.
  • Prior to opening, all non-porous surfaces, high touch points (door knobs, door handles, push plates, railings, light and air control switches) will be thoroughly disinfected and on a routine schedule after opening.

  • All sales are final.

2020 Season Pass purchases made before June 14, 2020 will receive the identical Season Pass, with the same benefits, in 2021 at no extra charge. For "Gold", "Platinum", and "Any Buddy" Season Passes, the Passholder will be able to use them for any 2021 seasonal holiday events as well, if scheduled (Fall calendar To Be Determined). This extension also applies to add-on products like the All Summer Dining Pass.

2020 "Summer" Season Pass purchases made before June 14, 2020 will include the 2021 Summer Season, but will not include seasonal holiday events in 2020 or 2021. The Summer Season Pass is still a summer-only pass.

Updated July 28 - Season Passes purchased after June 14, 2020 will also receive an extension into 2021. 2020 Gold, Platinum, Senior and Military will receive the full benefits in 2021 due to the adjustments of operating days. 2020 "Summer Saver" Season Pass were sold only for the 2020 season at a discounted price. However, those have now been extended through June 30, 2021. Next season, Summer Saver season passholders will have the option to extend their season pass past June 30 at a discounted rate.

All 2020 Preschool Play Passes will be extended through Summer Season of 2021. The activation period for Preschool Play Passes is now ANY Operating Day 2020 (once announced) through June 2021. If your qualifying child is "aging out" of the required Preschool Pass age range (i.e. turning age 6), they will still be able to enjoy its use through summer, 2021 due to the COVID-19 circumstances, as long as they originally met the age requirement for the pass as established on our Preschool Play Pass page, and have the required proof of age requested.

Our plan is to ensure you receive equal value for any experience, or benefit, you missed out on this year due to COVID-19. All Summer Dining Passes and other add-ons will also be valid through the comparable 2021 Summer Season time frame also (i.e. All Summer Dining Passes are valid only through Labor Day, so they will be extended through Labor Day, 2021). Please note we are no longer selling All-Summer Dining Passes.

Good Any Day tickets will be valid through the entirety of the 2020 Summer Season, and Limited Operation and Date-Restricted Tickets will be accepted any day of the 2020 Summer Season. Most events for the summer season have been cancelled for this year due to the uncertainty and the amount of time that goes into planning such events. We look forward to their return next season. Additionally, fall events remain tentative.

In keeping with the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and in following with orders from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, all Team Members and Guests aged two (2) and up are required to wear facial coverings while at Kennywood. Facial coverings must do the following:

  • Fully cover an individual's nose and mouth and allow the guest to remain hands-free
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be made of breathable material, either disposable or reusable

Costume masks are not considered appropriate and are prohibited. Face shields are not permitted on any attractions and are not a substitute for a facial covering. Face shields are permitted within the park when worn with an acceptable facial covering.

Guests are required to remove facial coverings while on water attractions (Loggin' Toboggan, SoakZone waterslides and pools), in complying with water safety best practices. We recommend bringing a sealable plastic bag to store your facial covering in if you plan to enjoy these attractions. Guests may also remove their masks while eating or drinking.

In order to effectively promote social distancing and practice the best health and safety procedures, some attractions may be closed for part or all of the summer season.

  • During the season, a list of scheduled attractions is continually updated and posted to the top of the homepage. That will be your best source for viewing the status of rides and attractions in advance of your visit.
  • Attraction availability is subject to change without notice
  • We have posted a tentative 2021 Operating Calendar, which may be viewed as a base-case scenario, which may be expanded should COVID conditions continue to improve.
